Automation Engineer

Our client is a world-class precision-machined powertrain and brake components supplier for Automotive OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers. In 2021, they realized a turnover of 167 million euros and employed 1100 full-time employees.
They have production facilities in Belgium, Germany, Mexico, Croatia and Romania, with its headquarters in Belgium. The company has a diversified blue-chip customer portfolio, including Audi, Caterpillar, Continental, Cummins, DAF, General Motors, Punch Powertrain, and Volkswagen.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Monitor and continuously improve automated production processes and technical systems, with a focus on robotics, handling systems, and optical inspection processes
• Lead the implementation and coordination of new or adapted production processes, ensuring integration of automation technologies, including robotics and optical systems
• Provide technical support to production teams, including troubleshooting issues in automated systems, ensuring efficiency, and minimizing downtime
• Manage and maintain software for automated machines and systems, including regular updates, optimizations, and ensuring system integrity
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on process improvements, including creating and maintaining FMEAs, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards (IATF 16949, ISO 14001, ISO 9001)
• Support the introduction of new products and technologies, ensuring seamless integration into existing systems, while maintaining production continuity
• Provide training and develop technical documentation, instructions, reports, and statistical analyses to support operational excellence
• Foster and maintain internal and external relationships with customers, suppliers, and partners to ensure effective technical cooperation and problem-solving
• Participate in data collection and analysis for process optimization, including the programming and adjustment of robotics and optical inspection systems
• Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor according to knowledge and abilities
• Comply with quality, occupational safety, environmental, and energy management regulations

REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS:

• Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in preferred knowledge in the field of automatic machine maintenance
• Automation systems expertise, including robotics and automated handling systems
• Skilled in PLC programming and troubleshooting (e.g., Siemens S7)
• Experience in maintaining automated machines and understanding hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems
• Strong problem-solving and process optimization skills
• Customer-specific requirements

SPECIAL SKILLS:

• Familiarity with IATF 16949, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001 standards would be considered a plus
• Analytical thinking
• Capable of working with minimal supervision and making technical decisions
• Ability to quickly and efficiently react to complex technical problems
• Adaptability and innovation
• High level of responsibility and reliability
